A Family Bakery Since the Start
A Family Bakery Since the Start
Ernie’s Bakery began in Fresno in 1962 on Butler Ave. when the area was mostly populated by Armenian and German families. This was a time when people enjoyed fresh baked pastries and breads, and went to the local bakeries (not supermarkets). My father Ernie Sr. whom the bakery is named after, began baking with my grandfather Jose Audelo (Papa Joe) in the 1940’s on Kern Street located in West Fresno. This is back when freeway 99 was a new freeway and across the street from my grandfather’s small shop was the Buddhist Church, Komoto department store located down the street and the Mexico Café just around the corner.

In the 40’s our family bakery was known for mostly Mexican breads and donuts. My father started the cake decorating in 1950 for my grandfather on Kern St. The cake business took off from there… and is still 75% of our business today. We have a greater variety of pastries which include our danish, donuts, cookies, assorted cream pastries, pies, beerocks, ice cream cakes, sandwiches, hot soup (seasonal) and custom wedding cakes.

Our decorated novelty cakes and edible photo cakes are the most popular. Children always enjoy our novelty cakes with the bright colored airbrushing and pop-up scenery with their favorite toys for their birthdays. Or a custom cake with a memorable photo to put a smile on someone’s face for a special occasion. We still bake German Cugas (German style coffee cake) which are very popular during the holidays. Remember to place your orders in advance.
To our 3rd generation customers we thank you for your business.
